Dalcroze

Emile Jacques, a Swiss musician and educator was born in Vienna in the year of 1865. He was a child prodigy and by the age of seven he has already composed as many as 600 compositions. He was first exposed to music by his mother and he had his first formal education at the Conservatory of Music and the College of Geneva. After he graduated, he moved to Paris, where he became the student of Gabriel Faure studying compositions. In the year of 1885, Emile moved back to Geneva where he learnt under a Swiss theorist called Mathis Lussy.

The name Dalcroze was later added to better distinguish himself from another composer who was also a good friend of his. Since then, he became more recognized for much more than his composition. By the 20th century, he became one of the greatest educators introducing Dalcroze Eurhythmics. By then, he wrote many books and articles on Eurhythmics and the Arts, composed hundreds of musical exercises for the piano, orchestral, instrumental and chamber music, songs and operas. He also gave lectures and demonstrations through Europe.

Today, he is renown around the world and teachers have been using this method to teach their students. Dalcroze is honoured and given contemporary perspective to meet the needs of students today.
